Back to the village might be a good suggestion that may be suitable for the elderly. Its not just a reason to relax the mind and minimize the stress.Furthermore, living in urban areas are vulnerable to pollution impacts for the elderly. Well, air pollution can increase the risk of pneumonia (inflammation of the lungs) two times greater for them when compared with the younger group. This research was conducted by the researchers from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. Study respondents were 365 senior citizens of age 65 years and from the City of Hamilton, Ontario. All of them are the people who ever was hospitalized with pneumonia in the period from 2003 to 2005.
The researchers measured the pollution indicators in their blood.Blood samples were then compared with those who have never hospitalization for the same illness. The results of the study mentioned, living in the area for a year full of pollution can increase the risk of pneumonia up to two times greater.”We assume, in the polluted air environment for long periods will increase the vulnerability of a person 6 of pneumonia. It is disturbing the natural human immune system from birth that is designed to protect the lungs – pulmonary disease” said Dr. Mark Loeb, research team leader of McMaster University.
